Dental Care Initiative in Iraq
In 2019, in an effort to provide healthcare services in Iraq, SAMS launched the Miles for Smiles mission in collaboration with local health authorities. This initiative established dental services within refugee camps, focusing on essential therapeutic and preventive care.
World Humanitarian Day in Gawilan Camp
On August 19, 2024, SAMS organized a special awareness event in partnership with the Lutes Flower Child Protection Center. The event focused on teaching 52 children aged 6–9 about oral hygiene as they prepared for the new school year.
Two awareness sessions led by SAMS dentists at Gawilan Camp engaged children in conversations about oral hygiene, the importance of regular checkups, and healthy dental habits. These sessions empowered children and families to take better care of their health.
During the awareness sessions, dental screenings were conducted for all participants. Referrals were issued for children requiring further treatment at the SAMS dental clinic in Gawilan.
Gift bags containing toothbrushes, toothpaste, and educational materials were distributed to reinforce healthy habits at home.
Healthcare programs for Iraqi refugees depend on continued funding to remain operational. Without reliable resources, access to preventive and essential medical care becomes limited for thousands of displaced families.
