How to Donate Your Zakat

Zakat 2026 FAQS

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and a spiritual act of worship that purifies wealth while helping those in need.

Adult Muslims whose savings and assets exceed the nisab threshold for a full lunar year are required to pay.

Zakat becomes due once your wealth has been above the nisab for a full Islamic (lunar) year, regardless of the Gregorian calendar. Many Muslims choose to pay their Zakat during Ramadan because of the increased spiritual reward and the opportunity to support those in need at a blessed time.

For Ramadan 2026, Islamic calendar estimates show that the holy month is expected to begin around the evening of February 17–18, 2026, with the first day of fasting likely on February 18 or 19, 2026, depending on local moon sighting. Ramadan is then expected to continue through March, with Eid al‑Fitr observed around March 19–20, 2026 after the sighting of the new moon.

Because Zakat is based on the lunar year and moon sightings, the exact date can vary slightly by location. Many people plan to give their Zakat early in Ramadan to ensure it is paid within the holy month and reaches vulnerable families at a time of heightened need and blessing

Zakat strengthens communities, alleviates suffering, and fulfills a divine obligation.

It is a spiritual act of generosity, ensuring that a portion of your wealth benefits those with a rightful share.

Zakat is distributed to eight categories (Asnaf) defined in Islamic law. SAMS ensures your donation reaches eligible recipients, including:

  • People living in poverty
  • Families in urgent need
  • Individuals in debt
  • Displaced persons and refugees
  • Other eligible groups under Shariah guidance
Through SAMS, your Zakat supports vulnerable patients and families who cannot access or afford essential medical care.
