Washington, DC – On Friday, October 2, Russian airstrikes hit a field hospital in northern Hama causing severe damage to the facility. Two nurses and a hospital guard were injured in the attack. Medication, supplies, an electric generator, and the only ambulance for the facility were critically damaged. The facility is no longer operational, despite its reinforced underground construction. photo 2

These attacks follow reports of Russian airstrikes hitting a field hospital in northern Latakkia and an ambulance depot in Idlib, confirmed by Physicians for Human Rights. SAMS strongly condemns all targeted attacks on hospitals and civilian infrastructure, including the recent Russian airstrikes that have caused over 40 civilian casualties and destruction to vital health facilities and vehicles. Russia’s escalating airstrikes and military action in Syria constitute grave violations of international humanitarian law.
