Healthcare for a Unified Syria

As a new chapter dawns for Syria, the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) remains steadfast in its mission to provide dignified, high-quality healthcare to all Syrians. With the sudden collapse of the Assad regime after more than 50 years of power, we renew our unwavering commitment to the people of Syria. For over a decade, SAMS has stood by the most vulnerable, offering free medical care, education, and protection services while advocating for accountability for the atrocities of war.

Today, SAMS pledges to work alongside all Syrians to build a unified, peaceful future through equitable healthcare. We will continue serving survivors of the 13-year conflict, ensuring that no one is left behind.

“Our staff and Members were motivated during the darkest hours against all odds,” said SAMS President Dr. Mufaddal Hamadeh. “And we are even more motivated today to seek the common goal of rebuilding our healthcare system together, unified once again.”

As the largest provider of healthcare in the former opposition-controlled areas, SAMS has faced unthinkable challenges, including targeted attacks on our hospitals and the loss of 62 staff members. Yet, our resolve remains strong.

Today, SAMS operates a wide-reaching relief program that addresses urgent needs while building the foundation for a stronger healthcare system. From providing critical trauma care and chronic disease support to rehabilitating damaged hospitals and expanding mental health services, SAMS is on the ground, ready to serve.

We are inspired by the resilience of our staff, members, and the Syrian people. Together, we are working to ensure that every Syrian has access to the care they deserve, no matter where they are.
