Behind those numbers are real people whose lives depend on access to care. For 10-year-old Mustafa, that care meant a chance to keep his sight.

Mustafa had already lost vision in one eye to retinal detachment. When the same condition threatened his remaining eye, his family rushed to seek help.

He arrived at Noor Al-Hayat Hospital during the final hours of a SAMS medical mission. Rather than leave as scheduled, the visiting surgeon stayed to perform the complex surgery.

The surgery was successful, giving Mustafa a chance to preserve his remaining vision.
