With the last 10 nights upon us, this is your moment to uplift the most vulnerable in Syria with hope and healing.
The devastation of war lives in the hearts and minds of those who have endured unimaginable loss. Millions of Syrians suffer from trauma, anxiety, and PTSD, yet mental health services are nearly nonexistent. At SAMS, we are committed to restoring not just bodies, but hearts and minds. We provide counseling, therapy, and psychosocial support for children and adults who have survived war, displacement, and loss. We train mental health professionals, run support groups, and offer safe spaces for people to begin healing. With each session, each child’s smile restored, each parent’s strength regained—we take one step closer to rebuilding Syria from within.
This Ramadan, we are reminded of the resilience of children like Sama.
Sama was only six years old when an airstrike changed her life forever. Her family ran for shelter when they heard the shelling, but the missile struck before they could make it to safety. Her grandfather was killed instantly, and Sama and her siblings were critically wounded. She was rushed to Ma’arat Misrin Hospital, supported by SAMS, where doctors treated the shrapnel wound in her neck.
But healing goes beyond physical wounds. Trauma leaves scars unseen.
Sama was terrified, shaken by the horror she had just lived through. But thanks to SAMS’ mental health team, she wasn’t left to carry that fear alone. Jamila Al-Yousef, a psychological support worker, recalls how their team immediately stepped in to ease Sama’s distress. “Within hours, we managed to bring a smile back to Sama’s face and comfort both her and her mother.”
Your generosity this Ramadan can turn pain into peace. You can be the light of hope for children like Sama. Your support provides critical medical care and psychological healing to those who have endured the unimaginable.
Give hope during these sacred last ten nights of Ramadan. Restore dignity. Heal lives.
