SAMS – Restoring Sound: Hearing Care for Children in Syria
The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) presents this report on childhood hearing loss in Syria, offering a comprehensive overview of the challenges children face and the services available nationwide. Drawing on SAMS’ experience providing specialized hearing care during the conflict, national guidance, regional evidence, and program data, the report highlights the profile of children assessed, the interventions they received—including cochlear implant activation, fitting, and early calibration—and the gaps that remain. Intended for health authorities, policymakers, humanitarian organizations, clinical partners, and donors, it provides actionable insights to guide coordinated efforts toward early detection, intervention, and rehabilitation. The report also acknowledges the vital contributions of technical partners, medical teams, volunteers, and supporters whose expertise and support have helped children and families access critical hearing services even in the most difficult circumstances.
