About Us

Who We Are

The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is a global medical relief organization working on the frontlines of crisis response in Syria and beyond. Our mission is to save lives and alleviate suffering by providing dignified, essential healthcare to communities in need.

Founded by physicians of Syrian descent, SAMS has grown into a leading medical humanitarian organization, operating in some of the world’s most challenging environments. From conflict zones to refugee camps, SAMS is committed to meeting urgent medical needs while investing in the future of healthcare.

Our Mission

SAMS is dedicated to delivering life-saving services, revitalizing health systems during crises, and promoting medical education through a network of committed humanitarians in Syria, the United States, and beyond.

Our Vision

SAMS envisions a future in which every patient receives dignified medical care, no matter the circumstances. We strive to strengthen Syria’s healthcare system and extend our impact to crisis-affected populations globally through ethical, sustainable care.

Our Core Values

Serving with Compassion

We provide care grounded in kindness and respect. Every patient is treated with humanity, no matter their background or beliefs.

Acting with Urgency

We respond swiftly and effectively to medical crises wherever they arise, while maintaining a high standard of care.

Partnering for Impact

We collaborate with like-minded organizations to expand our reach and build sustainable, community-centered solutions.

Mobilizing Expertise

Our strength lies in our global network of dedicated medical professionals who work together to deliver innovative, effective care and advocate for those most at risk.

How SAMS Started

The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) was founded in 1998 in the United States as a professional society for Syrian-American physicians, focused on networking, education, and service. In 2007, SAMS launched its charitable arm, SAMS Foundation, which has since grown into one of the most active humanitarian medical organizations working in Syria and the surrounding region. SAMS has implemented an integrated model of essential care that includes medical education and training, support for healthcare workers, and the establishment of hospitals, intensive care units, mobile medical units, birth and neonatal centers, dialysis facilities, and dental and primary care clinics.

Why Support SAMS

SAMS operates with a deep sense of duty to those caught in conflict and crisis. Our commitment to ethical, needs-based care drives every aspect of our work, from emergency trauma response to long-term health system recovery.

We deliver care where few others can and train the next generation of providers who will carry this work forward.
