SAMS Welcomes Brussels Conference Commitments And Appeals For Additional Donor Support During This Critical Time

The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) welcomes the outcomes and commitments of the European Union hosted Brussels Conference mobilizing $6.3 billion in support of an inclusive and peaceful transition, including pledges for humanitarian and non-humanitarian aid. SAMS welcomes the donor commitments to healthcare, as well as essential support for water, food, and education, all of which are vital for Syria’s recovery in 2025 and 2026.
SAMS especially applauds the European Union’s increased commitment of $2.7 billion this year. However, despite these generous pledges, this year’s overall pledges fall significantly short of last year’s commitments totaling $8.2 billion, leaving a critical gap in humanitarian assistance during this critical time in Syria’s transition.

To meet this historic moment in Syria’s transition and ensure continued access to medical relief, public health programs, as well as healthcare infrastructure rebuilding, SAMS calls on the international community to uphold previous funding levels and increase their commitments. The Syrian people remain on a historic path toward self-determination, recovery, and rebuilding after 14 years of war, and sustained support is essential for their future.

Background: On March 17, 2025, the European Union convened partners for its annual Brussels Conference, Standing with Syria. This is the first time the conference has been held since the collapse of the Assad regime with the aim of ensuring sustained support of Syrians, both in Syria and in its host countries. It is also the first time Syria has had representation at the conference with the attendance of the interim Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani. The European Union announced an increased commitment of $2.7 billion to support Syrians both within Syria and in host countries. Key donor contributions include:
Germany: $328 million USD
United Kingdom: $208 million USD
European Union: $2.7 billion USD
Last year, the conference garnered $8.2 billion in pledges.

ترحب الجمعية الطبية السورية الأمريكية بالتزامات مؤتمر بروكسل وتناشد بدعم إضافي من المانحين خلال هذه الفترة الحرجة
١٧ آذار ٢٠٢٥، واشنطن العاصمة – ترحب الجمعية الطبية السورية الأمريكية (SAMS) بنتائج والتزامات مؤتمر بروكسل الذي استضافه الاتحاد الأوروبي، والذي جمع ٦,٣ مليار دولار لدعم انتقال شامل وسلمي، بما في ذلك التعهدات بتقديم المساعدات الإنسانية وغير الإنسانية. وتعرب SAMS عن ترحيبها بالتزامات المانحين تجاه الرعاية الصحية، بالإضافة إلى الدعم الأساسي للمياه والغذاء والتعليم، والتي تعتبر جميعها ضرورية لتعافي سوريا في عامي ٢٠٢٥ و٢٠٢٦.
