SAMS in Iraq
SAMS remains at the forefront of serving the people in Iraq and refugee communities. In 2024, SAMS continued its unwavering commitment to providing essential dental care to vulnerable communities in Iraq through SAMS Dental Clinics. The SAMS Private Fund supports this dental program. This initiative operated across five refugee camps, including Domiz 1, Domiz 2, Bardarash, Koya, and Gawilan. This clinical program ensures that displaced individuals and communities have access to high-quality oral health services in challenging and often overlooked environments.
Our dedicated dental teams comprise skilled dental and support staff who provide compassionate and patient-centred care, focusing on both treatment and preventive oral health education. By creating accessible dental services in these camps, SAMS has addressed a critical gap in Iraq's healthcare system and helped thousands of individuals maintain their overall oral health.

SAMS Activities in Iraq
Dental Care Initiative in Iraq
In 2019, in an effort to provide healthcare services in Iraq, SAMS took an initiative:
- SAMS launched the Miles for Smiles mission to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq by collaborating with local health authorities.
- This mission established dental services within refugee camps, focusing on essential therapeutic and preventive care.
World Humanitarian Day in Gawilan Camp
On August 19, 2024, to mark World Humanitarian Day, SAMS held a special awareness event.
- The event was held in Gawilan Camp in partnership with the Lutes Flower Child Protection Center.
- The event focused on teaching 52 children aged 6-9 about oral hygiene as they prepared for the new school year.
The Awareness Session
- Two awareness sessions led by SAMS dentists at Gawilan Camp engaged children in conversations about oral hygiene, the importance of regular checkups, and healthy dental habits.
- This session helped to empower children by raising awareness about oral health.
Dental Screening for Children
- At the awareness session at Gawilan Camp, dental screenings were conducted for all participants, with referrals issued for children requiring further care at the SAMS dental clinic in Gawilan.
- Gift bags were distributed at the event, containing essential items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and educational flyers, to reinforce healthy habits at home.
