Syrian American Medical Society Foundation
After years of conflict, Gaza faces catastrophic destruction. Nearly two million people have been displaced and tens of thousands of lives have been lost. Since October 2023, the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) has been on the ground, providing urgent medical and humanitarian relief while laying the foundation for long-term recovery.
When the crisis escalated, SAMS mobilized medical teams from the U.S., Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt. At the European Gaza Hospital, our doctors delivered lifesaving trauma and ICU care, while maternal and child health mobile units reached vulnerable families in displacement shelters.
Working with partners like Mersal and Anera, we moved critical medical supplies through Rafah and Jordan, and established a dental clinic in Nuseirat to expand access to oral health care.
Between December 2023 and February 2024, SAMS also supported distributions of fresh food parcels and winter clothing with UPA and PARC, reaching over 9,000 displaced people. These early interventions saved lives and gave families the basic resources they needed to endure the harshest months of the crisis.

In 2024 and 2025, SAMS led two medical missions to the European Gaza Hospital in partnership with the Palestinian American Medical Association (PAMA) and the Jordanian American Physician Association (JAPA).
Our surgical teams — including trauma, vascular, and reconstructive specialists — not only provided direct patient care but also trained local staff, ensuring that knowledge and skills remain long after the missions conclude. Both missions carried desperately needed supplies, from anesthesia kits to wound care equipment, replenishing hospital stocks at a time when they were nearly depleted.
Today, SAMS operates three mobile medical units across northern and southern Gaza, staffed by physicians, midwives, nurses, and social workers. These teams provide everything from general medical consultations to maternal health care, wound treatment, and psychosocial support, while also contributing to Gaza’s disease surveillance system.
Between April and June 2025, these teams reached more than 19,000 people, with women and children making up the majority of patients.
At the same time, the Nuseirat dental clinic continues to meet a pressing need for oral health services, treating over 3,400 patients and delivering more than 5,000 dental procedures in just three months. The clinic has also trained 19 dental interns, investing in long-term healthcare capacity.
