SAMS Launches Nationwide 2026 Medical Mission Across Syria

Washington, D.C. – Jan 26, 2026 — The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) is deploying a specialized medical mission across Syrian governorates from January 25–29, delivering critical medical care in response to growing displacement and limited access to essential healthcare, including in Aleppo and northeast Syria, where recent developments have further strained health services.

The mission brings together 60+ U.S.-based volunteer physicians from diverse fields to provide advanced care at hospitals across Syria, addressing critical gaps in access to specialized treatment.

A major focus of the mission is SAMS’ expanded medical response in northeast Syria, led by Dr. Mohamad Saleh. The team is delivering critical services in Deir Ezzor and across the northeast, where displacement has severely limited access to care. The mission also includes outreach to additional areas, including Raqqa, providing essential consultations and treatment for vulnerable populations.

Alongside these efforts, Dr. Bassel Atassi and the hematology and oncology team are providing outpatient consultations and follow-up care at oncology centers and hospitals in Deir Ezzor, Idlib, and Homs, supporting patients whose cancer treatment has been disrupted. In parallel, Dr. Anas Safadi is performing advanced cardiac interventional procedures at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Damascus, treating high-risk patients with urgent, often life-threatening cardiac conditions.

Through this mission, SAMS continues to bridge critical gaps in care, support frontline hospitals, and deliver specialized medical services as part of its expanded healthcare network, now supporting more than 60 health centers across Syria following the country’s liberation in December 2025.
