Thank you for your interest in donating! The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Foundation is a global medical relief organization that is working on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria and beyond. Since 2011, SAMS has proudly provided nearly 20 million medical services free of charge to patients in need. We are a US-based 501(c)3 nonprofit medical relief organization (TIN: 16-1717058).

How do Gifts in Kind Donations Work?

SAMS accepts a variety of Gifts in Kind (GiK) donations for use in our medical relief activities, including medical consumables, used and/ or new equipment, and medications. SAMS evaluates each donation on an individual basis, taking into consideration the needs of the field for the donated supplies and/ or equipment. We also study the shipping costs of the donation to ensure it is cost effective, and determine whether it will support domestic activities in the United States, or our medical facilities in the region. The evaluation process takes 1 to 2 weeks.

To support our evaluation process, we ask prospective donors to provide SAMS with a detailed list of their planned donation, mentioning the brand and specifications, quantity of each item, and expiration date(s).

Medical Supplies and Equipment

Expired medical supplies are NOT accepted, and we ask that all donations have expiration dates at least one year from the date of donation. This rule allows SAMS to ensure they are still usable following the time needed to store, transport and distribute them among the needed facilities in Syria or elsewhere. We do, however, have a network of charitable clinics and other domestic activities in the U.S. which we support that could potentially benefit from donations with closer expiration dates.

For equipment, please provide the technical specifications, the working condition of the machine, and any make or model numbers.

Shipment

To maximize the financial impact of your GIK, SAMS prefers to support donors in shipping items directly to our field offices. Alternatively, SAMS can receive donated items in the U.S. and coordinate for onward shipment. For items that will be shipped internationally, we ask that donors provide a commercial invoice and certificate of origin for all goods. A certificate of analysis is also required. If international shipping is done through the donor, we will also ask for the Bill of Lading to be sent directly to the SAMS consignee.
