Oral health is often overlooked in humanitarian settings, yet untreated dental pain can keep children out of school and adults from work. Through clinics, mobile outreach, and awareness sessions, SAMS ensures that families in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Morocco receive the care and education they need to protect their health.

Dental Care in Syria & Lebanon
In partnership with MAPs, SAMS delivered 18,453 dental services and reached 7,800 people through oral health campaigns. Families also received hygiene kits, including 566 toothbrush and toothpaste sets, to promote preventive care.
Success Story
Ghona and Hoda
“When sisters Ghona and Hoda visited the Al Noor Center in Bar Elias, they were suffering from severe dental pain and infections.
After careful evaluation, their infected teeth were extracted, and Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) was applied to stop further decay. They then joined a dental hygiene awareness session, where they learned the importance of daily oral care.
They left relieved of pain and smiling, each carrying a toothbrush and toothpaste to start new habits at home.”
Staying to Heal:
Dr. Ahmad’s Commitment
Dr. Ahmad Al-Abdo, a dental specialist at Batbo Primary Health Care Center, has worked with SAMS since 2015.
He credits SAMS with enhancing expertise through training and modern equipment, even under the threat of airstrikes. When the Zerbeh clinic was bombed and forced to close, many patients lost access to care.
Despite repeated chances to leave Syria, Dr. Ahmad chose to remain: “I decided to remain to provide medical care and help ease people’s suffering.”
Iraq: Care for Displaced Families
Through the SAMS Private Fund, dental teams operated across five refugee camps, Domiz 1, Domiz 2, Bardarash, Koya, and Gawilan, bringing critical oral health services to displaced individuals and families.
These clinics ensured that refugees received both treatment and preventive support in settings where care is often unavailable.
World Humanitarian Day in Gawilan Camp
On August 19, 2024, SAMS partnered with the Lutes Flower Child Protection Center to host an awareness event for 52 children aged 6–9. Dentists led interactive sessions on hygiene and healthy habits, screened all participants, and issued referrals for follow-up care.
Each child received a gift bag with toothbrushes, toothpaste, and educational flyers. The event created a safe space for learning and underscored the importance of oral health at the start of the school year.
Morocco: Healing After the Earthquake
After the 2023 earthquake, SAMS supported recovery efforts in Al Haouz and Al Hoceima. From April to September 2024, 18 psychosocial workshops reached 553 women and 354 children.
In December, SAMS and the High Atlas Foundation launched a Dental Caravan in Tadart, treating 780 children with hygiene education, check-ups, and oral care. The week closed with a traditional Ahwach dance, celebrating resilience and community spirit.
Jordan:
Expanding Services
In 2024, SAMS delivered 6,914 dental services across Jordan, supporting families with treatment and preventive care.
