Learn about SAMS’ Maternal and Child Healthcare Impact

Across conflict zones and refugee camps, thousands of mothers and newborns rely on SAMS for safety, dignity, and care during life’s most fragile moments.

In 2024 alone, SAMS’ network of maternal and child healthcare facilities—including Al Dana Hospital, Qah Maternity Hospital, Raju Hospital, Al Shifa Hospital in Afrin, and the Specialized Maternity Hospital in Idlib—celebrated the arrival of over 22,000 newborns. Each new life represents not only hope, but the enduring resilience of families who refuse to give up.

Beyond Syria, our teams continued to stand by vulnerable mothers wherever they are. In Greece, SAMS mobile clinics provided maternal care to refugees and migrant women living in camps around Attica. In Lebanon, we offered financial assistance to cover hospital care for over 1,000 infants and newborns from refugee communities—giving them the chance for a healthy start in life.

Among these stories of courage is Maya’s journey.

After fleeing her home in Homs, Maya returned to Idlib to give birth in the very hospital that had supported her throughout her pregnancy. Despite bombings that damaged the facility, our team—equipped with critical surgical sutures provided by the IHP grant—performed an emergency C-section, ensuring both mother and baby survived.

For Maya, the Idlib Maternity Hospital is more than a building; it’s a sanctuary of resilience where every act of care helps rebuild the future.

But this work is only possible because of people like you.

Your support sustains these hospitals, equips medical teams, and gives mothers like Maya the chance to welcome their children in safety.

Please join us today in strengthening SAMS’ maternal and newborn care programs across Syria, Lebanon, and Greece. Together, we can continue to deliver life, hope, and healing where it’s needed most.
