SAMS Provides Critical Mental Health Support After Successive Attacks in Ukraine
November 21, 2025
On the night of November 17, 2025, Dnipro, Ukraine endured a series of intense attacks that shook the city, left civilians injured, and sparked fires across several districts. After hours of fear, disruption, and uncertainty, the emotional toll on residents was profound.
Despite the devastation, SAMS moved forward the next day, November 18, with its scheduled mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) session for medical staff at the Dnipro Regional Oncology Center. Given what the city had just experienced, the timing could not have been more critical. The session offered a space for grounding, emotional processing, and stress relief at a moment when many were still in shock. Participants described it as a rare opportunity to pause, breathe, and steady themselves amid the chaos.
Just one day later, on November 19, Ukraine faced yet another major wave of attacks — including a strike on a residential building in Ternopil that caused a partial collapse, claiming lives and injuring many more. Rescue teams worked through the night to recover victims, support survivors, and stabilize the scene.
Through these ongoing and rapidly unfolding challenges, SAMS remains committed to supporting frontline medical professionals in Ukraine with sustained mental health and psycho-emotional care. Our sessions focus on burnout prevention, stress management, and practical self-help techniques. Participants consistently share heartfelt appreciation for this support — noting the emotional warmth, openness, and sense of safety they feel, as well as the value of tools that help them manage anxiety, stay grounded, and regain a measure of control.
SAMS stands with Ukraine’s medical teams as they continue serving their communities under extraordinary stress and danger. We remain dedicated to ensuring they receive the care and support they need to continue their lifesaving work.
