Dr. Alahmad studied medicine in Homs, Syria and graduated in 2020. He completed two years of neurology residency in his home country before moving to Michigan in 2022 to pursue academic excellence, where he now works as a post-doctoral researcher with the department of Psychiatry at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Academically, he leads multiple projects on refugees’ mental health, the development of Augmented Reality Exposure Therapy (ARET) as a groundbreaking and innovative technology in the realm of exposure therapy, and he will soon start his first research project as a young investigator examining biomarkers and predictors of response to exposure therapy in PTSD patients. Dr. Alahmad is a neuroscience enthusiast and a mental health advocate. As an active SAMS member and Chair of the young professional international medical graduates committee at SAMS, he strives to bring the Syrian medical community together and to implement his skills and knowledge to make a tangible difference in the lives of Syrians affected by conflict and displacement.
