Witnessing the Unthinkable

Since October 7, 2023, Gaza has been engulfed in relentless conflict, leaving over 2.3 million civilians, including 1 million children, in dire need of humanitarian aid. The constant bombardment, forced displacement, and psychological trauma have devastated the region. The blockade on essential supplies like food, water, fuel, and medicine has further exacerbated the suffering.

The Humanitarian Catastrophe

In the past seven months, more than 34,488 people have lost their lives, and 77,643 have been injured, the majority being women and children. Over 1.7 million people have been displaced, facing catastrophic food insecurity. With 57% of water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities damaged or destroyed, and more than half of Gaza's hospitals no longer operational, the medical sector is overwhelmed. Healthcare workers are performing complex surgeries under severe shortages, often without sufficient pain medication or anesthesia.

Emergency Medical Response

  • October 2023: Partnered with the American Medical Association (PAMA) to deliver $50,000 worth of medical supplies.
  • October 2023: Coordinated with Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) to provide $25,000 for emergency needs.
  • Allocated $100,000 for collaboration with American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) for medications and supplies from Jordan.
  • $50,000 worth of medical supplies shipped from Egypt in partnership with the Mersal Foundation.
  • Emergency Financial Assistance: Contributed $100,000 to 135 medical students from Gaza in Turkey.
  • Medical volunteers to treat the most vulnerable.

Humanitarian Aid Distribution

  • Food and Clothing: Delivered $100,000 worth of food and clothing to displaced families, benefiting 6,327 people.
  • Ramadan 2024: Distributed 1,542 food parcels and 1,050 family-size hot meals in Mawasi Khan Younis.

Medical Missions

March 2024: co-led an international medical mission team to Gaza.

Ongoing Missions: Participating in multispecialty missions in 2024, contributing needed medications and supplies.

Capacity Building: Planning programs to enhance emergency care and trauma management skills for local healthcare workers.

Voices from the Frontline

Dr. Samer Attar, a dedicated SAMS volunteer, highlighted the dire situation: “Every day we saw death from malnutrition, dehydration, and traumatic injuries.” Malnutrition is a growing crisis, silently claiming the lives of children.

According to WHO, 27 children have died from malnutrition, with up to 16% of children in northern Gaza suffering from acute malnutrition.
