As a result of devastating Syria/Türkiye earthquakes and a worsening humanitarian crisis, health needs grew significantly in Syria in 2023. Thanks to your support, SAMS not only responded to this surge in the governorates where our teams and facilities exist, but also expanded its operations globally to ensure that the most vulnerable have access to life-saving, dignified healthcare in the wake of disaster, displacement, and ongoing conflict.
Some of our 2023 achievements include:
- Providing medical and humanitarian services to people in urgent need in Syria and ten other countries, including Türkiye, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan, Greece, Ukraine, Libya, Morocco, and Gaza.
- Ensuring that 96 cents of every dollar donated in 2023 went directly to helping those in need.
- Supporting 48 healthcare facilities across northern Syria, including 12 fully-equipped hospitals in five Syrian governorates: Aleppo, Idlib, Ar Raqqa, Al Hasakah, and Deir Ez-Zour.
- Delivering at least 177,000 interventions to earthquake survivors in Syria, repairing crucial healthcare facilities, and scaling up services such as cardiovascular and oncology services.
- Providing over 39,000 medical services specifically to cancer patients in northern Syria and Lebanon.
- Launching a total of 24 medical and dental missions to Syria, Jordan Lebanon, Greece, Pakistan, and Ukraine, providing vital care to refugees and vulnerable host populations.
- Establishing SAMS Institute and training hundreds of healthcare workers, graduating 22 nurses, 7 oncology fellows inside Syria, and supporting 85 medical and health sciences students in Türkiye.
- Working with partners to deliver emergency aid to thousands of people affected by the earthquake in Morocco, the flood disaster in Libya, and the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
SAMS could not have achieved these extraordinary results without the unwavering commitment of volunteers, members, partners. and donors like you. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
