WASHINGTON, D.C., JULY 31, 2017 – Earlier this month, WWE Superstar Sami Zayn teamed up with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) to launch the #SamiForSyria campaign. The campaign seeks to raise funds to launch a new mobile clinic, which would provide primary medical aid for civilians in Syria who otherwise have no access to health care.
Sami Zayn is a Canadian-born Syrian whose parents migrated from Homs, Syria to Montreal, Canada in the 1970s. After a 15 year wrestling career, Sami has found stardom with WWE, but has also been an active advocate and a voice for the people of Syria.
“With the devastation of the conflict in Syria, hospitals have been destroyed, making healthcare access not only limited, but also dangerous. A mobile clinic will be able to safely provide primary healthcare to those in need,” said Zayn. “We will be able to directly help the elderly, the disabled, and the women and children whose homes have been destroyed and are now living in camps.”
SAMS has responded to this crucial need for emergency and primary medical services by investing in mobile clinics, a cost-effective and sustainable method of bringing medical care right to people’s doorsteps. Mobile clinics help protect individuals against preventable and chronic diseases, provide regular medical care to patients who cannot travel to seek treatment, and allow pregnant women to receive the prenatal care and vital screenings they need.
In 2016, SAMS supported nine mobile clinics across Syria, providing more than 110,000 medical services to Syrians who otherwise had no access to healthcare.
SAMS is proud to partner with Sami, a dedicated and compassionate humanitarian, who is using his voice and status to bring relief to those affected by the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time.
