After years of war and destruction, Syria is not just rebuilding its cities—it is rebuilding lives. But as communities rise from the rubble, another crisis is silently growing: heart disease is now one of Syria’s leading causes of death.

Without access to essential care, children are born with undiagnosed heart defects, and adults suffer from preventable cardiac conditions. Many families cannot afford the life-saving surgeries and medications they desperately need.

For Ali, a 55-year-old displaced man, this reality nearly cost him his life. When he felt crushing chest pain, he sought help at a private hospital, only to be met with a devastating truth, he couldn’t afford the treatment that could save him. With no options left, he asked to be sent home to face his fate.

But hope was waiting.

Ali was transferred to Al-Zaraa Hospital in Idlib, supported by SAMS, where doctors diagnosed him with a severe heart attack and life-threatening ventricular tachycardia. Dr. Ahmed Ghazal and his team acted immediately, performing an urgent catheterization and placing two stents to open his blocked artery. After 42 hours in the ICU, Ali was stable and alive.

“Words are not enough to express my thanks to the hospital staff who saved me, without any charge,” he says.

At SAMS, we refuse to let medical care be a privilege. Our cardiology program is a beacon of hope, delivering critical screenings, life-saving interventions, and advanced cardiac surgeries. Our mobile clinics reach the most vulnerable, while our specialized hospitals provide cutting-edge treatments, giving every heartbeat a fighting chance.

This Ramadan, your generosity can bring the Light of Hope to those battling heart disease. Your support means a child’s first healthy heartbeat, a mother’s sigh of relief, and a future where Syria’s healthcare system is stronger than ever.
